*Please note that the sessions over both days are IDENTICAL. We have replicated the same schedule over two days to make it easier for attendees to pick and choose the sessions according to their schedules, e.g. if you are interested in attending a Quality of Life session, you should only register for ONE of the two sessions available to you.
This 90-minute session will delve into the specific goal, objectives, and strategies associated with economic development and diversification. Attendees will break off into smaller working groups where they will be able to provide more targeted feedback on the goal, objectives, and strategies.
When it comes to economic development diversification, there was consensus among stakeholders during Phase I of the Study as to the quality of the educational institutions in the study area as well as the availability of workforce training. However, most felt that these institutions didn’t move fast enough or were not forward thinking enough beyond oil and gas and heavy construction needs. Conversations focused on opportunities for industries positioned for growth like logistics, tourism, health care, energy diversification, etc.
Concern over attracting and retaining workers was significant according to the the first survey released in May with over 70% of respondents citing that as the number one barrier.
