This 90-minute session will delve into the specific goal, objectives, and strategies associated with quality of life. Attendees will break off into smaller working groups where they will be able to provide more targeted feedback on the goal, objectives, and strategies.

Although proximity to major Texas cities, availability of open land, a receptive workforce, and natural assets make the study area an appealing place to live and work, many challenges remain that diminish the region’s quality of life.

Primarily, during Phase 1 of the Study, there was a recurring theme of tension between the expansion of ports and heavy industry, and preservation of local ecological sites. Additionally, in both rural and urban counties, the lack of affordable housing comes up as one of the biggest factors in attracting people to live and work in the study area. Finally, there was a growing consensus around identifying quality of life amenities that encourage
local market workforce diversification, but also support tourism attraction.

*Please note that this session is also offered on Wednesday, September 16 @ 4:30 PM.
